Daring Do times Two! by OtakuSquirrel Daring Do times Two! by OtakuSquirrel
On the left is my New Daring Do destined for the EverfreeNW charity auction. On the right is my original Daring Do... You'll notice a few things on the new Daring Do that my Daring Do is lacking...

First, I actually changed her eye color. Yay! And yet... I still haven't changed the eye color on my Daring Do! LOL! Part of this is because my Daring Do was my first pony that I ever bought... So in a way, she's still my first Applejack, and thus just Applejack in a costume. =)

Secondly, I got the color for her wings a lot closer to matching her body. I used a mixture of four different paints, as well as giving them a wash with some thinned out paint to get the color as close as I possible. I think they look good-- but that's just me, what do I know.

For changing her eye color I just used a very tiny paintbrush and carefully painted over the colors of her eyes. It's not as hard as it might seem- you just have to take it slow and be careful.

Man, recoloring ponies' eyes is something I could never dream of doing.

I don't have a steady hand. Especially when working on a detail so tiny.

But you do apparently, and the new Daring Do looks great. :)

How do you get the eye color without messing up the eye at all?

A really tiny paintbrush, and a really really steady hand. I basically just paint over her irises... I water down the paint quite a bit so they dry as smooth as possible-- which typically means that I need to put down two to four coats of paint depending on how well the paint actually covers...
