Finished Vinyl Scratch by OtakuSquirrel Finished Vinyl Scratch by OtakuSquirrel
And........ DONE!

You've already seen her without her glasses, and now here she is with her glasses on.

The glasses are held in by a small piece of wire glue to the back of her right lens... it plugs into a tiny hole I drilled onto the inside of her mane. They can be popped out super easy so one can go with or without her shades. =)

Anyway, Scratch here is going to go on a trip next week... Tomorrow I'm going to get back kto work on the other two Scratches and my Twilights (G1 and G4). I also have my Pinkamina ready for paint-- I should finish her up also. =D

Unfortunately, not offering any of her at the moment and not sure when I'll have a chance to make more as I'm tied up with a fairly large commission right now.

I do a lot of carving with my sculpts... and those are one of the more obvious reflections of this.
Once I've basically finished a sculpt, I scribe the lines in (cut them in with an x-acto knife) as they really do seem to add that extra something to the overall appearance-- as well as make excellent guides for separating colors from each other. =)

Ohh I see, well thanks for the info. I make sculpts too and wanted to make some more complicated ones in the future but I wondered how to do that. I'm currently using Sculpey III which is very soft and not very good to carve into. XD

Oh, yeah, I carve after I've baked the clay-- so everything is already hardened when I'm doing that part... I usually bake a sculpt at least a half-dozen times, carving, refining, and adding more clay each time before I bake again.

Ohh, nice. I'll have to try that then. I'm planning to make a dragon so I think that will be a good technique to use. c: What do you use to carve btw? I have an xacto knive, dunno if that'll work.

That's all I use-- the x-acto with the regular blade. I do swap out for fresh blades more often than I care to admit though. A sharp blade makes a big difference.

Only just now? I'm not taking orders for Scratch yet-- but I will eventually open up orders again, including for her. A finished Scratch will probably be around $125.

well.. debating since i will have to pay for shipping (you're not from up north.. are you?) I would have to save up for that kind of pricing, but I`ll still keep my eye on it! :D

yeah, you definately caught my eye for my favorite pony! ;)

No, I'm running around just North of San Francisco. Don't know how far up there in Canada you are-- if you can get to Seattle for EverfreeNW, I'm planning on having a few Scratches there to sell-- of course, the Washington State sales tax I have to charge will be about the same as what the shipping would be... =P

So much better than the official toy that is coming out. IMHO.
The hair styling is what makes it. Also, removable glasses.

You can see a lot of my process by browsing through my galleries... I like taking lots of WIP protos. =)
But basically, I spend a lot of time sculpting and carving the clay to get them just how I want them-- and then I make molds and cast resin copies so that they're not just one-off sculpts.

Thanks! Scratch is somewhere between Northern California and Vancouver right now-- taking a scenic trip on her way to meet her new owner. I really need to get working on the next two-- one for me, and one to go travelling.

Not yet. Taking and filling orders is a lot of work, so I'm going to wait until I have all the new molds ready before opening orders. I'll also maybe be able to get a jump start on making casts for her that way also...
