The Great and Powerful Trixie! by OtakuSquirrel The Great and Powerful Trixie! by OtakuSquirrel
And here's Trixie!

Before I can paint ALL the prepped Trixie Kits, I have to settle on her colors. This is my second attempt at painting Tricie... my first attempt at painting a mane and tail for her completely failed-- the colors looked good coming out of a catalog when compared to a screenshot of her, but they just didn't work when all was done and painted.

I'm pretty happy with how this Trixie turned out-- but I still might try lightening one of my other blues to see if I can get something that is just a tiny bit softer... If I find something I like better, this may end up being my Trixie for my collection.

Do you still have these kits?

No- I've been working on other projects the last year.  All my stock of kits has been sold at this point and I'm wanting to work on finishing incomplete projects and starting new ones.

you might consider saving the hair and selling it over at "the arena" to ppl who re-hair and custom ponys...there is a pretty good demand for pony hair

i gotta ask since ive been following your work for a while..where in lunas heavens did you find trixie?..im STILL trying to just find one

Trixie and all her twin sisters? I have connections... Well, not really. I know someone who has a bit of experience using TaoBao-- and while everyone was trying to find Derpy, she scored "all the Trixies" for me. She's super awesome! =D

My cats play with it... Then the garbage. I guess that means that I'm not at one with nature-- because I don't recycle the whole pony...

The blue looks a little too green for Trixie. Trixie's more of a lighter baby blue or something. I don't think the "white" stripes are white either, they're more of a white that has a little teensy bit of blue in them.

But the sculpt certainly looks awesome! :)

Yeah, it's not quite the right tone-- these really really light colors are drying differently on the different surfaces, which is causing me some issues. I basically need to find a nice baby blue, lighten it up some, and run with it...

They "white" is actually a REALLY light blue. Again, things are drying differently then they look wet-- and in this case, the blue more-or-less vanished. So more experimenting is needed. (The first attempt came out way too dark...)

Paint is so silly! :noes: I find the same issues with markers, too, where they look great until they dry.

The front of her mane looks too white for me, almost like you switched the order of the colours, but otherwise it looks really good!

Is the Trixie pony available in the US now? 'cause I want it so badly! xD

The order of the colors is right-- but yeah, the blue tint I put into the paint didn't show as much as I wanted... These really light colors are being a pain...

I know I'm red/green color blind, but who would have thought that you were blue/green color dumb! (I'm his brother, I get to be mean to him)

Oh hush, the colors are changing a bit when they dry. It looked a lot better when still wet. =(

I really have to know, 'cause it's been niggling at me for a while... What do you do with the hair when you're done? By now you could probably make some sort of huge Frankenstein pony with all the manes and tails you've cut *lol*

And yes, her blues are a little off, I think. You want something more 'Alice blue' and 'Powder blue' (or even 'non-photo blue') for her mane I think... There's a helpful color chart for you here [link]

You could even go a little darker than the powder blue and use sky blue. But definitely want that white to have a hint of blue in it. Or the animators could be using what's known as 'moonlight white', like they did with Cinderella's dress. Where the light cast off by the moon can make white look faintly blue.

I wish it was as easy as looking at a chart... basically I'm limited to what paints are available at the craft store. The colors are so light that I'm having to mix them... so I'm basically experimenting here, and the colors look different dry than wet, which means I don't know what I got until I let it dry and assemble everything. =P

That sucks! Perhaps a test patch to let dry before doing the whole thing? Saves you the hassle of having to paint and repaint until you find the right color.

Wow. How much would it cost for you to do that to my Trixie?

I'm going to be selling finished ones at EverfreeNW, and after the con I'll probably occasionally take commissions. I charge between $80 and $100 for ponies normally-- prices will be higher at EverfreeNW due to sales tax-- Trixie will be a bit more because she's not exactly available yet.

It could be my monitor but that light blue looks to have a little green in it. I agree with @RPpirate. I think it would look better on Lyra. :)

Yeah, the paint changed a bit when it dried. It looked okay until I put her all together, and then became really apparent next to Trixie's blue body. Oh well, I'll just have to find or mix a better blue is all...

I'm going to have to agree with RPpirate. I think the white should've been more blue tinted and the blue should've been more...well...blue!

That being said, she still looks incredible :D

Yup. Dealing with super light colors is a paint in the flank.

Honestly, that looks more like Lyra's blue. So at least you have something for that when you get to it~

In person is doesn't really look like Lyra's blue... but yeah, it's got too much green in it. Of course, this version is 10 times better than the first attempt-- so I'm getting closer. ;)
